Types of Fall Protection Equipment Offered

Mathews Mechanical installs and services all industrial fall protection systems needed to meet your commercial space needs. Our certified experts can advise you on what fall protection is best for keeping your employees safe over machinery, roofs, ladders, or any other areas on the job site or in your facility where they may need protection.

Personal Fall Arrest System

Using a combination of equipment and techniques to ensure safety in the event of a fall, personal fall arrest systems (PFAS) typically include a full-body harness, a connecting lanyard or self-retracting lifeline, and an anchorage point. In the event of a fall, the connecting lanyard or self-retracting lifeline will activate and arrest the fall to prevent the worker from hitting the ground.

These systems are ideal for construction sites, roofing work, and other industries where workers frequently work at heights. These are also commonly referred to as “travel restraint systems (TRS)”.

Personal Fall Restraint System (PFRS)

Similar to a PFAS, a personal fall restraint system (PFRS) serves as a preventative measure, keeping workers secured within a safe region and keeping them from falling in the first place. These systems comprise the same equipment as a PFAS, but the anchorage point keeps the worker a safe distance away from the edge of the elevated surface.

These systems are effective safety measures for when a worker needs to be on an elevated surface but don’t need to move beyond a certain point or close to the edge, such as when performing maintenance and inspection tasks.

Guardrail System

A reliable guardrail system is essential for keeping workers safe on construction sites or other scaffolding to reduce the risk of falling. These barrier systems include top rails, midrails, toe boards, and posts that are anchored to the surface of the elevated region.

Safety Net System

To add another layer of fall protection on job sites or in industrial facilities, safety net systems provide a cushion to catch workers if they fall, preventing them from hitting the ground. A net is installed beneath the elevated surface and secured with an anchorage point and support system to keep the net from sagging.

Fall Arrest Ladder System

When your employees frequently need to access elevated regions by ladder, fall arrest ladder systems keep them safe while climbing. These arrest systems operate similarly to PFAS, but are designed for workers to use when moving up and down rather than when up on an elevated surface.

Fall Protection System Training

When Mathews Mechanical installs a new fall protection system at your job site or facility, we also offer safety education to train your employees on how to effectively use and care for the equipment. Fall protection system classes are often an OSHA requirement, which is why we offer the following high-quality 3M classes on fall protection:

  • Authorized Person Essential Fall Protection Course: A one-day course for those who work regularly with a basic fall protection system with a certified anchorage.
  • Authorized Person Comprehensive Fall Protection Course: A one-day course for covering everything from general safety principles to the selection, set-up, and usage of various fall protection systems.
  • Competent Person Fall Protection Course: A 16-hour class ideal for those who work at a variety of different heights requiring the use of numerous fall protection systems. Teaches participants all about fall protection safety systems and prepares them to provide fall safety oversight to others.

These are all offered as open enrollment classes for any employees in need of the training for OSHA compliance or general safety training with your fall protection system. Contact us to learn more about our upcoming open enrollment classes!

On-Site Fall Protection System Classes

If you need fall protection system training on-site for your employees, our team is here to help! Our fully-certified team can bring the training to you, which is ideal for when a brand new fall protection system has been installed.
