Custom Metal Fabrication: The Mathews Mechanical Approach

At Mathews Mechanical, our mission is simple: we help people solve problems. And that’s how we approach every project. Regardless of the industry (and we’ve worked with many!), we’re dedicated to delivering high-quality services and products in a timely manner. Custom metal fabrication, primarily using steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, is one of our key services. If you are looking for custom metal fabrication, you likely have a challenge you’d like to solve, a unique need that isn’t met on the mass market, unusual specs that need an expert design, or an ideal turnkey product that has yet to be created.

Our Custom Metal Fabrication Projects

Our custom metal fabrication experts create custom elements out of metal ranging from features  like tool cages and steel walkways, ramps and ladders, to architectural fixtures, staircases and more.

At Mathews Mechanical, our expert team of skilled, certified engineers, welders, and technicians have a track record of producing innovative, high-quality custom fabrication designs with a superior level of mechanical integrity. Our line card outlines our many offerings.

Custom metal fabrication (both aluminum and stainless steel) commonly utilizes two common types of metal: sheet metal and structural metal. Sheet metal fabrication utilizes sheets in various sizes and shapes to create custom pieces, while structural metal starts with a particular shape. Our team of engineers, welders, and assemblers, use these to bring your designs to life.

The Custom Metal Fabrication Process

At Mathews Mechanical, our process starts with understanding the problem you’ve come to us to solve. Some clients come to us knowing exactly what their company needs, from large-scale elements to turnkey products. For others, the organization’s need isn’t fully defined. And we welcome custom projects of that nature too!True to our solution-driven nature, we’ll take your challenge and break it into individual problems that can be resolved one by one. In contrast to traditional stock metal fabrication processes, or mass fabrication, the custom fabrication process offers flexibility for manufacturing application-specific products. Sometimes a job calls for both assembly of a stock metal product, with some additional customization to make it work in your space.

Projects we’ve worked on vary across needs and industries including automotive, factories, construction, food and beverage, material handling, and more, depending on the application requirements. Whether your custom solution calls for aluminum, stainless steel, or another metal, versatility is key.

Some of our past custom metal fabrication solutions have included:

  • Heat Exchanger Packages
  • Process Equipment Skids
  • Steel Support Structures & Framing
  • Railing, Stairs & Ladders
  • Platforms & Mezzanines
  • Part Manipulators
  • Dollies & Carts
  • Custom Machinery/prototyping/Design-Build machinery

Each fabrication project is different — because it’s custom, after all! But after establishing the manufacturing and engineering plans, the process typically begins with cutting the metal down to predetermined sizes based on design specifications. After bending metals such as stainless steel or aluminum accordingly, welders come in to weld metal sections together. From there, metals can be shaped further or punched. Once the project is crafted, it’s on to quality checks and off to your site for finish coating.

The Mathews Mechanical Difference

While many metals can be used in custom metal fabrication, here at Mathews Mechanical, we specialize in using steel, stainless steel, and aluminum to create exactly what your organization needs. Our previous solutions have included one-of-a-kind stairs, ladders, custom bracketry and fixtures, ornamental pieces, and more. At Mathews, we take it one step further and even help you with installation.

Our team of experienced and certified engineers, welders, and technicians constantly produce innovative and high-quality custom fabrication designs. In addition, our team is fully certified through the American Welding Society (AWS) and uses a variety of welding techniques including TIG (GTAW), MIG (GMAW), Flux Core (FCAW), and Stick (SMAW).

Striving to be the premier industrial maintenance and custom fabrication shop for the San Francisco Bay Area and along the Pacific Coast, Mathews Mechanical has a more than 30-year track record of quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.
